Overcomer Series with Emily Lockley
What do you do?
I am an infertility blogger who writes of my journey of trying to have a baby in a very real, raw and honest way. I freelance wrote for multiple Australian and international websites on infertility.
Growing up, did you always dream that you would be doing what you’re doing now?
I am a Neonatal Nurse and have been for almost 10 years, writing is fairly new to me but has opened up so many doors and has definitely helped me stay sane through our IVF journey.
What made you decide to “go for it” in terms of your career goals/ambitions?
In terms of writing and going public with our story, that was a very tough decision. But, so many women had reached out to me to say that even anonymously they were able to relate to me and my story and I was helping people get through their infertility journey. I decided it was time to put my big girl panties on and be; show my face, tell people my name and show everyone that infertility isn’t something I am embarrassed or ashamed of, but it does have a face and a voice in me.
Did you face adversity? How did you overcome that?
Infertility affects 1 in 6 couples, 1 in 6! Yet it is still a taboo and secret club and something that we as a society don’t talk about openly, I’m going to change that.
A lot of women have these big goals & big ideas that they’d like to bring to life, what advice would you give them in terms of how they can make that happen?
Be Brave.
What’s the biggest regret you have when it comes to your blog/shop/business?
Starting off as an anonymous blogger. Many months went by of hiding behind a pen name and giving the impression that I was ashamed or embarrassed of being infertile.
What’s been your proudest moment so far?
Being picked and published on Australian websites and the opportunity to tell my story and make other girls feel normal.
And, just because we like our coffee around here, how do you take yours?
Skinny iced latte (yep iced! Even when it’s cold – IVF drugs mean that hot drinks give me hot flashes!!)
I believe in the story of the overcomer. That has been my story and I believe that is your story too. We want your journey here on the blog to help encourage others just like you and me. If you’d like to share that with us, please come over and share your story with us!
Was this story an encouragement to you? Share it with others!
