Overcomer Series with Jo Boyd
What do you do?
I am a part time worker on a dairy farm, spraying weeds mostly, but I fix fences, help out with stock, and am just basically a spare pair of hands for them that doesn’t milk cows. I also draw and paint, mostly animal portraits, and commissions for people from photographs. I run regularly on an attempt to lose excess weight, and am attempting to build up a group of likeminded fitness enthusiasts to help inspire each other from online contact through my new blog.
Growing up, did you always dream that you would be doing what you’re doing now?
My dreams were annihilated at a moment in time when my life as I knew it ended in an incident where another driver made a very bad decision. Since that time, my dreams have altered a lot, but now I feel that I am headed down a path which God is gently directing me.
What made you decide to “go for it” in terms of your career goals/ambitions?
A number of things have just ‘fallen’ into place, and the coincidental revelations occurring in my life are sort of directing my journey into this vast and overwhelming realm of blogging and site creation! There is so much I have to learn – and so little time in my life to spend learning! Organization was the first door I opened that has led to this vast arena of opportunities!
Did you face adversity? How did you overcome that?
The most adverse experience I have ever faced happened almost 19 years ago at the time of writing this, and overcoming it is such a long ongoing process! The question is best answered by saying, ‘With gritted teeth, and a dash of beligerance, some faith in the Plan of God, and the belief that life can be better!’
A lot of women have these big goals & big ideas that they’d like to bring to life, what advice would you give them in terms of how they can make that happen?
Make a plan! Write it down!!! Set some dates to achieve steps along the way, and get plugged into a community of likeminded people!
What’s the biggest regret you have when it comes to your blog/shop/business?
Not knowing enough about what is possible to enable me to utilize the available tools in the time I have to sit at the computer.
What’s been your proudest moment so far?
Going from the self talk of ‘NIKE! Just Do IT!’ which is me trying to convince myself to take the first step, and ATTEMPT something… to the current self talk phrase of ‘DOIN’ IT!!’
And, just because we like our coffee around here, how do you take yours?
A tall flat white, milk, no sugar, free refills!
I believe in the story of the overcomer. That has been my story and I believe that is your story too. We want your journey here on the blog to help encourage others just like you and me. If you’d like to share that with us, please come over and share your story with us!
