Overcomer – Angie Fancher

What do you do?

My husband and I refurbish old or discarded items into something different or just make it pretty again. We love to go to flea markets or vintage stores and find primitives and turn them into something useful or decor for the home. The older, the better!! On our blog, we are currently running a series about our farmhouse makeover.

Growing up, did you always dream that you would be doing what you’re doing now?

Growing up, I dreamed of owning my own business. I thought that I would one day own a day care center because I loved children. But life happened and I had to find a J.O.B. outside of the home so I am currently working full time while growing my blog. This blog has opened up whole new worlds for me so now I can’t imagine not doing it!

What made you decide to “go for it” in terms of your career goals/ambitions?

I have a 9-5 job that I don’t particularly like. I am tired of the threats to close the office and I have always wanted to own my own business so I decided to go for it. I am still working but hoping to transition soon to blogging full time.

Did you face adversity? How did you overcome that?

I am older than a lot of bloggers out there which is okay because you have to start somewhere, right? I went back to college when I was 34 and obtained my Associates Degree in Business Administration when I was 38 while trying to get my twins through high school and raising a son in elementary school and working full time. But I feel that the education and life experience really helped me to have an edge as I’m figuring out how to start a business and set up my web site.

A lot of women have these big goals & big ideas that they’d like to bring to life, what advice would you give them in terms of how they can make that happen?

My advice to women with big goals and big ideas is to never give up. It will be hard and you’ll feel like you can’t do it but you can and it is so worth it when you reach the point where you say, “I did this so I can do anything”.

What’s the biggest regret you have when it comes to your blog/shop/business?

I regret not starting sooner when I was younger. I knew I wanted a business but I didn’t know how to start without places like Restored 316 to help guide me. I never even heard of the internet when I was in high school because it wasn’t available at all. But I feel that starting a blog is what I have been missing all these years and I didn’t even know it!

What’s been your proudest moment so far?

My proudest moment is when I launched my beautiful web site!! Some people say it’s a scary thing to launch but I was so excited that I wasn’t scared at all!

And, just because we like our coffee around here, how do you take yours?

Sorry, no coffee for me. Hot tea all the way! I like English Breakfast or Earl Grey tea.

I believe in the story of the overcomer. That has been my story and I believe that is your story too. We want your journey here on the blog to help encourage others just like you and me. If you’d like to share that with us, please come over and share your story with us!
