Building your email list is super important to create a stable customer base that you can engage with. We often recommend MailChimp and ConvertKit, but in this tutorial I will show you how to use the Genesis eNews Extended plugin with Mailerlite.
Let’s get started!
SIGN UP FOR A FREE MAILERLITE ACCOUNT
Once you have your Mailerlite account open and ready to go, click on Webforms > add a name > select embed form > select your subscriber group > create your form and click save.
This will take you to a screen that looks like this:
LET’S GET YOUR FORM EMBED CODE
Click on the “Show HTML” link. On the screen that shows you all the code, scroll toward the bottom and find the section that looks like this:
<form class=”ml-block-form” action=”//app.mailerlite.com/webforms/submit/x5n2p8” data-id=”344837″ data-code=”x5n2p8″ method=”POST” target=”_blank”>
<div class=”form-section mb10″>
<p>Signup for news and special offers!</p>
<div class=”form-group ml-field-email ml-validate-required ml-validate-email”>
<input type=”email” name=”fields[email]” class=”form-control” placeholder=”Email*” value=”” autocomplete=”email” x-autocompletetype=”email” spellcheck=”false” autocapitalize=”off” autocorrect=”off”>
<input type=”hidden” name=”ml-submit” value=”1″ />
The code I have highlighted in bold above is what you’ll need for the next step.
SYNC YOUR LIST WITH THE GENESIS ENEWS EXTENDED PLUGIN
First you’ll want to download the Genesis eNews Extended Plugin. Once this plugin is installed and activated, you will now have an extra widget in your Appearance > Widgets panel. Drag this widget into whichever space you are needing to place your newsletter sign up form.
In the Form Action field you’ll enter the form action code from the last step that is in bold above, preceded by https:, the email field and then in the hidden field you will enter the bold code from above that says “hidden”. In this example I am only using the email, if you would like to use the first name as well, you will add fields[name] to the First Name Field.
Save your widget!
NOTE: When submitting the form, if it opens a new window to re-enter the information, double-check that
a) the form action field is preceded by https:
b) that there are no spaces before the “[” fields[email] and fields[name]
MAKE SURE IT’S WORKING
Now go visit your site and do a test on your new form to make sure all is well! If something isn’t working, see the steps above again or leave a comment below!
