5 Things you need to be doing in order to help & avoid social media pressure

We all know that it is so easy nowadays to fall into that trap of social media pressure. We begin feeling like we can’t be as good as her, my house will never be that clean, and darn it.. I wish I looked that good with red lipstick. This list goes on and on, and if you’re on social media at all, you’ve felt this a time or two I promise.

But how can we take steps to avoid it as much as possible?  Today I’m sharing some things I’ve learned along the way and things I’ve implemented into my own life to cut down on this unnecessary pressure. For more great resources download The Ultimate Resource Guide.

Be you and stop trying to impress others

I’ve made this number one in my list, because it’s the easiest thing you can do.  When you’re trying to impress someone, or trying to be someone you’re not, that pressure has got to be suffocating. All you can do is be the best you that you can be, and don’t worry what others think of you.  The bottom line, is you’re going to have some people who love you and some that don’t.

What attracts people to YOU is you.  Your story, your character, your smarts, and everything else you have to offer!

Set some strict but reasonable boundaries

The second thing you can do is set some strict but reasonable boundaries around your social media.  If you’re on social media a lot, I understand this process can be incredibly difficult.. it’s like breaking an addiction.

Start in baby steps.  Start by choosing times during the day that you check in. Maybe phase one is to not look at social media during nap time. Phase two is perhaps you checking in once in the morning, and once in the evening instead of every hour.  Then continue this progress to cutting out a day or two out of the week to step off and enjoy time with your family!

My personal boundary is I check once in the morning and in the evening and mostly stay off over the weekend! This allows me to actually get my work done, and spend quality time with my family!

Start scheduling your posts

This one thing has helped me tremendously be able to set boundaries on my social media. A bit ago, I signed up for Latergram and I go in once a week (typically Monday or Tuesday) and schedule out my social media for the week.

This avoids me mindlessly checking Instagram to try and come up with ideas of what to post and when.  I have an account with Iconosquare that shows me my peak times to post for my market, so by scheduling my posts I’m not only allowing myself to stay off as much as I can, I’m also reaching more of the people that want to see what we post.

Unfollow those that make you feel icky

If you find yourself consistently becoming envious of others that you’re following, simple hit the unfollow button – even if it’s a friend.  Problem solved and you’ll stop feeling icky about how you have toys strewn all over your house.

Focus on what matters most

Lastly, focus on what matters most to you.  When you’re focused on your life and what makes you happy, you don’t have time to think about what others are doing!
